Do you take your 4 year old on school visits or go without her?

Starting school visits for next year's admissions. Three this month, a couple more in October. Some schools say bring the child, some don't mention it at all. My daughter gets overwhelmed in big new places and goes completely quiet. Then I can't tell if she disliked the school or just the crowd. Did you take yours on the first visit or only later?

Mine is only one so I'm reading with interest. When we looked at daycares we went alone first and took him only to the final two. Would that work for schools too? 🙂

That's probably what I'll do. Alone for the first round, with her for the last two. Saves her four tiring mornings as well.

We did this round about ten years ago. Took him to all of them and he remembered only the ones with a fish tank. I'd go alone first and judge the things she can't, like the classrooms, the teachers' manner and the drive.

Take her at least once. From the school side, a visit is your best chance to watch how staff speak to a child who isn't performing, and a quiet child is useful for that. Notice who bends down to her level and who talks over her head to you.
