class 9 son explains every maths answer perfectly. the chatbot explained it first

juniper_compass_7735

found out my 14 yr old has been using a chatbot for maths homework. not copying answers exactly, he asks it to explain each step and then writes it out himself. class tests are fine so far. half yearly is next week and i have no idea if he can do it without. ban it, allow it, or test him myself?

Among my students I see two groups: those who ask for an explanation after attempting a problem, and those who ask before. The second group struggles in exams. Ask him to show you what he tried before he asked. That tells you which group he is in.

Give him a past paper, no phone, a timer. Then you'll know instead of guessing.

did exactly this with my daughter. she did fine on the paper and still uses it every day. so the test told us less than we hoped

Ma pedda ammayi does the same for physics. We made one rule, phone stays in the hall during homework, she can use it after for checking. Konchem fights the first week, now it's ok.

phone in the hall sounds simple. how do you stop the laptop route, school portal is on the laptop

update for anyone reading: gave him a paper tonight, phone in the hall. 3 of 5 fine, stuck on exactly the two he had 'understood' last week. so your rule it is, from tomorrow

from the school side, teachers can usually tell. the written steps all look the same across the class. not a crime, but there's no helper sitting next to him in the board exam. we've had this conversation at home too
