class 1 admission form wants a 'current parent as reference'. we don't know anyone there

filling the form for the school he moves to for class 1. one field says 'reference: name and contact of a parent of a current student'. it's marked optional but it's on the first page. we don't know a single family at that school. does leaving it blank count against us, or is it really optional

Leave it blank. If optional means optional, it's optional. If it doesn't, you'll find out soon enough, and that tells you something about the school 🤷

daycare form for our daughter had the same line. we left it blank and nobody mentioned it. i suspect these fields are there for families who want to show a connection, not to screen out families who don't have one

Our daughter's preschool form had a similar line. We left it empty, got the seat, and later learnt that most families who filled it in had simply happened to know someone. If you do meet a current parent before you submit, a name costs nothing. I wouldn't go looking for one.

When our daughter changed schools a few years ago, we asked the office directly what a field like this was for. They said it was so the parents' committee could welcome new families. Might be something just as harmless here ❤️
