Asking about nursery at Siddartha High School for a hospital colleague who works nights

bronze_sparrow_3558

One of the women on our hospital's night housekeeping staff lives near Secunderabad and wants to find out about nursery admission at Siddartha High School for her son. She is on nights for the next two months and cannot get to the school office during working hours, so I offered to ask here first. Her questions are ordinary ones: when nursery forms usually come out, whether children are expected to know anything before joining, and how the day runs for the youngest ones. If your child is in the lower classes there, or you have visited recently, she would value what you saw rather than what the brochure says.

I don't know this school, but as a teacher I can say most nursery admissions in the city open somewhere between November and January, so she has a little time. Could she phone the office in a lunch break on one of her day weeks? Many schools will also let a family member come in and collect the form. Is there someone at home who could go?

no direct experience but call before going. office hours for admissions are often different from school hours and nobody writes that on the board

We are going through this for LKG ourselves this year, so a few things I have learnt that apply to most schools, not specifically this one. Keep the birth certificate and both parents' ID copies ready, ask whether there is an interaction with the child, and ask what time nursery finishes. For a parent on shifts the finishing time shapes everything else.

If she does manage a visit, I would suggest asking to see a nursery classroom near the end of the day rather than in the morning. The morning view is the tidy one. What the room looks like at 12.30 tells you more about how many children there are for each adult.

Kind of you to do this for her. Slightly off-topic, but is it normal to think about nursery when your son is 2 months old? My wife says I'm too early. After reading this thread I feel I'm late.

one more for her list - ask if the school van comes to her area and from what age nursery kids are allowed on it. with her shifts the van question could decide it
