4 year old has asked for his own room. My partner says yes, I keep stalling

He announced it on Sunday. He's had a small bed in our room since he came out of the cot, and the spare room is mostly my students' answer papers and his toys. He wants the toys and the room. My partner says let him. I keep finding reasons to wait: the room is at the other end of the flat, he still wakes once on some nights, the papers need somewhere to go. If your child asked for this around 4 or 5, did you go with it straight away?
