13 yr old redraws every science record diagram until it's perfect. 3 hours last night

class 8 started with a practical record book and every diagram is graded. she drew the onion peel cells, rubbed it out, drew again, rubbed again. by the fourth try the paper had gone thin. she won't move on until it looks like the textbook. i'm a little proud and a lot worried, because there are twelve more diagrams this term. do i step in or let her find out it takes too long

I was this child, with biology diagrams especially. My mother's rule was a pencil draft on a rough sheet first, and only one attempt in the record itself. It felt unfair then. It did teach me that a good diagram and a perfect one take very different amounts of time. Would she accept a rough sheet first?

Rough sheet is a good idea. My granddaughter also erases till the paper tears. Her teacher told them a neat diagram with correct labels gets full marks, and a perfect one gets the same marks. That stopped some of it.
