Will speaking mostly Kannada at home matter when our son goes for nursery admission?

maple_kettle_6571

Our son is one and starting to say a few words, mostly Kannada because that's what my partner and I speak at home. Daycare is English with some Telugu. A relative says nursery admission 'interactions' are all in English and we should switch at home now. Is that true, or are schools used to small children who speak another language?

Our boys spoke mostly Telugu at home till they were three. At both their nursery interactions the teachers spoke to them in whatever they answered in, and one teacher asked my younger son to name colours in Telugu when he went quiet. I wouldn't switch your home language. He'll pick up English at daycare and school faster than you expect.
