Where to get a 13 year old's first spectacles on the Miyapur side?

The school eye check came back with a note for my son, 13, to get his eyes tested properly. Apparently he's been squinting at the board for a while and didn't think to mention it. Looking for a place around Miyapur, Chandanagar or Kondapur for the test and the frames. He plays football most evenings, so frames that survive being sat on would help. Also, should we go to an eye hospital for the test, or is a good optical shop enough? I've never worn glasses myself, so this is all new to me.

Our daughter got hers at 8. We did the test at an eye hospital and then bought frames from a shop near home, which worked fine. The doctor's prescription is what matters, the shop just makes it. For football ask for the bendy flexible frames, and a strap for matches. Her first pair lasted exactly three weeks :)

Thank you, that settles it. The school note also says to see an eye doctor, so I'll book the hospital for Saturday and do frames after. Three weeks would be a good result in this house.

From the school side, ask for a spare pair if you can manage it. Every week someone's glasses come back from PE in two pieces and the child spends the rest of the day unable to see the board, which defeats the whole purpose na. And a hard case that lives in the school bag, not at home :)

Let him pick the frames himself, even if you hate them. My daughter got glasses at 12, we 'helped' her choose, and she kept them in her bag for a month because she thought they looked like her aunt's. The second pair she chose herself and she wears them all day. haha lesson learnt.

there are a few opticals along the main road on the bachupally side. nothing special but fine for frames. go on a weekday evening, on saturdays everyone has the same idea

Saw this after we'd already gone, but you were right about Saturday, the place was packed. Mild short sight, nothing worrying. He chose flexible black frames that he insists look nothing like mine would. The case is already missing. ❤

One thing I would ask before paying is which lens coatings are needed. We paid extra for anti-glare and a blue light coating on our elder daughter's first pair, and the doctor said later that neither was necessary for her prescription. Also find out how often they want him rechecked. At that age the number can change within a year. Did they tell you when to come back?
