What should I be listening for when family praises pre-nursery at Academic Heights, Falaknuma?

linen_veranda_1373

Our son is seven months, so this is very early. But my partner's cousin's daughter has just finished pre-nursery at Academic Heights in Falaknuma, and every family lunch now includes a long report on it. The settling in, the teachers, how happy she was to go. We're in Miyapur, so that particular school isn't really on our map. What I'm trying to work out is which parts of her story I should be looking for anywhere: how the first weeks are handled, the real timings, the language used with the small ones. For parents with children at Academic Heights or a similar school, what did you only learn after joining?

can't speak for that branch. one thing i'd ask any pre-nursery: do the little ones start with everyone else, or a week or two later? changes your leave plans completely

Ask your cousin what the morning drop was like. Years ago with our son, the school itself was fine and the gate was chaos. My partner still talks about the gate, not the teachers.

The gate is a good point. Also ask who is allowed to collect and what they need for it. Our school wanted a photo card for every adult who picks up, grandparents included, and we found out on the first day.

listen for the actual pickup time. 'half day' can mean anything from 11 to 1.30, and that one number decides your whole care plan

Family praise is about one child and one teacher. Teachers move. Ask her which teacher it was and whether she is still there before you treat any of it as being about the school.

Mine is still in daycare, so take this lightly. When we were choosing a daycare, the most useful thing was standing near the gate for ten minutes at pickup. You see how the little ones come out, who hands them over, whether it's calm. Worth doing before paying anything anywhere.

Agree, but time it right when you do look. In May the gates are empty, and by the time classes are running most families have already paid. Ask whether parents can sit in for part of the first week.

I don't know Academic Heights at all. On language: ask what the teachers speak with the small ones in the first weeks. For our younger one that mattered more than anything in the prospectus. His first teacher switched to Hindi with the criers and that week went much better.

That one I would never have thought to ask. Adding it, and I'll quietly check with my cousin-in-law what it was like for her daughter.

One more for the list: what happens when a pre-nursery child misses a lot of days in the first months, with colds or family functions. Some schools are relaxed at that age, some send notes home. Better to know before joining.
