Weighed my class 6 daughter's school bag. 7.4 kg.

She's been complaining about her shoulders, so I put the bag on the kitchen scale last night. 7.4 kg, and she's 11 and not a big child. ICSE class 6 means separate physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, two languages and computers, plus a notebook for each and the atlas. Six or seven periods a day, so she can't leave half of it at home. We already pack by timetable. Water bottle and tiffin go on top of all that. Does anyone's school let them keep some books in class? Or have you found some other way around it 🙂

Ours was a little over 6 kg when I checked last term, so you're not alone. Two things helped a bit: combined notebooks for two subjects where the teacher allowed it, and leaving the atlas and dictionary at home and sharing with her bench partner on alternate days. It doesn't solve it.

Our school has small cubbies in class for class 6, but only for textbooks of subjects with no homework that day. Worth asking at the PTM, sometimes there's a rule nobody tells parents about. Also check the bag itself. My daughter's 'cool' bag weighed almost a kilo empty. We switched to a plain one and she sulked for a week

Empty bag weight, I hadn't even thought of that. Hers has about six zips and a metal logo. Checking tonight 🙂

Class 8 here, daughter is 13, same problem. When I am home I carry her bag to the bus stop and she walks free, she says that is the best part of my off days. When I am on duty she manages. The empty bag point is good, I will check hers also.
