Weekend art class has taught our 4 year old the word 'abstract'

orchid_drum_5910

She now finishes every drawing in about forty seconds. If I ask what it is, she says, very patiently, 'Maa, it's abstract.' A single orange line across the page was abstract. So was the back of a grocery bill she scribbled on during breakfast. I've been told I should be encouraging. I am. I'm also fairly sure I'm being played.

Our son picked up 'it's a prototype' from a friend in his robotics class and used it the same way for a year. Anything unfinished was a prototype. Including his bed.

To be fair to her, that's roughly how a lot of gallery captions read too.

Frame the orange line. In ten years it'll be the funniest thing on your wall 🙂

my 6 year old's version is 'it's not finished, it's resting'. the drawings have been resting since january

Wait till she learns 'minimalist'. Mine is 12 and uses it to explain why nothing in her room is ever put away 🙂
