We walk past Gowtham Model School in Begumpet every evening. What's class 1 homework like there?

Our daughter is in an IB school right now, 40 minutes each way, and she'll start class 1 next June. Gowtham Model School is five minutes' walk from home, so it keeps coming up. I'm a teacher at a CBSE school, so I know what class 1 homework looks like there. I don't know what it looks like in a State Board school. A page a day, a weekly sheet, written work in every subject? Anyone with a young child there?

Our daughter's early years were at another State Board school, not this one. Homework then was mostly copying letters and numbers, a page or so, more before tests. That was over ten years ago, though, and I would expect things have changed. Since you're five minutes away, the office might show you a class 1 notebook if you ask.

Seeing a notebook is a good idea. I'd also ask how much of it the child is expected to do alone. At class 1, a lot of homework ends up being the parent's homework.

A neighbour's son was there in the primary years. From what she told me, there was written homework most days but it was short, and the bigger load started around class 3. Treat that as one family's experience, not a rule.

class 3 is when it gets heavier at my school too. 'short' is what i want to hear for class 1, as long as it isn't short plus a tuition

      Replying to @banyan_lantern_9342

Does homework in class 1 do anything at all? Asking because our one year old will be facing it soon enough.
