Van late four times since the rains, and each time she's marked late at school

lemon_compass_3683

Our daughter's van has reached school after the bell four times this month, mostly on rainy mornings when the route backs up near the flyover. On each of those days she has been marked late on the school app. She was at the stop on time every day; the van was not. I'm not upset with the driver, the roads are what they are. My question is about process. Does a late mark in class 2 go anywhere, or is it only a register entry? And is there an accepted way to have the reason recorded? I would rather ask properly once than send a note every time it rains.

I can only speak for our son's school, which is a different one, so treat this as one data point. There, late marks in the primary classes show up in the attendance summary on the report card but don't lead to anything unless they become a pattern. When a whole van is late, the transport in-charge sends the list to the office and those marks are changed. Parents only found out this was possible because one father asked. I would write once to the class teacher with the van number and the dates, and ask whether the school has a similar arrangement, rather than assuming it doesn't.

Thank you, that is the distinction I was looking for. I'm on call tonight, so I've only just seen this. I'll write to the class teacher in the morning with the dates and ask how they handle a whole van arriving late, rather than asking for her marks to be removed.

Did they reply? Our son's van is late most rainy days too and I hadn't even thought to check the app for this.
