Two class 5 sections merged into one of 48. Is there a limit per section?

banyan_pool_6146

Class lists went up on the school app yesterday, ahead of reopening. The two class 5 sections are now one. 48 children, one class teacher, and from what another parent saw at the book counter, extra benches squeezed in. The circular says the other section 'did not have enough admissions'. Last year our daughter was in a class of 32. Is there a rule on how many children a CBSE section can have? And has anyone pushed back on something like this and got anywhere, or does it stay like this till enough kids leave?

48 in class 5 is a lot. our preschool has 22 with two teachers and I still think thats too many 🤷

CBSE has a cap per section in its affiliation rules, 40 if I remember right. Worth checking the current version before you go in though. Our daughter's old school tried 45 once, parents asked as a group, and they split it again by the second week

Did the parents write to the school, or go to the principal in person? I ask because a group letter can read as a complaint, while two or three parents asking in person sometimes get a quicker answer without anyone digging in.

The number in the CBSE bye-laws is 40 per section, as far as I know, and the document is on the board's website. Schools do stretch it in the first weeks while they wait for late admissions and transfers. I'd give it two weeks and then ask, in writing, what the plan is. A specific question ('will a second section open, and when?') is harder to brush off than a general complaint.
