Trial day before client-site work starts: me out of the house, nanny and the 4 month old at home

moss_spoon_356

Client-site days start again next month. The nanny has been with us a few weeks, but I've always been somewhere in the flat, so she hands him back the minute he fusses and I take him. Planning one full trial day next week where I leave at 9, come back at 6, and don't come back early. My partner will be at office too. Did anyone do this? What did you leave written down, and did you call every hour or stay away?

We did the daycare version, two half days before the first full one. The note that helped most was a list of his usual feed and nap times plus what settles him. A list, not a paragraph. And we agreed on two calls, lunchtime and 4, so nobody was waiting by the phone.

I went back to on-call work when my son was about this age. The first day was harder for me than for him. Do the full day. If you come home at 2, she learns her day ends at 2.
