Three big cups of milk a day, and then our toddler won't touch dinner

mint_bookmark_9315

Morning, after her nap and at bedtime, each one a full tumbler. The grandparents add a fourth on their days because 'she asked'. Dinner is three bites and then the plate gets pushed away. Our paediatrician has said to cut down, but not by how much or how. What did your routine look like when you reduced milk, and did dinner improve?

We moved the after-nap milk to after dinner and gave water or buttermilk after the nap. Same number of cups for a while, just in a different order. Dinner improved within a couple of weeks. Later we dropped the extra one without much protest.

Smaller tumbler helped us. Same ritual, half the milk. He didn't notice for months.

Did the grandparents agree to cut down too? That was our whole problem. Home rules didn't survive their house.

This! My mother-in-law kept a secret evening glass of malted milk going for my son till he was nine. I only found out because he told on her 🙂

Ours was the same at two. Milk was comfort for her, not food. What finally worked was a story replacing the bedtime milk, not more food at dinner. Took a month and a lot of stories 😄

We are at the other end with our baby, trying to get any milk into her at all, so I can't help with reducing. With our son, many years ago, I remember dinner improving only once the evening milk was at least two hours before the meal.

tumbler trick worked here too. also stopped giving milk when she said 'hungry'. gave a banana or idli instead. 2 weeks of whining then fine
