the boys at his cricket academy call the sunday group for disabled kids the 'slow team'

academy runs a separate sunday group for children with disabilities. my son's batch calls it the slow team. he said it at dinner like it was just its name. he's 9 and not unkind, he's repeating the big boys. i don't want to give a lecture he tunes out after one sentence. how did you handle this kind of thing at that age

From the other side of this: my son has asthma and has to sit out sometimes at football. The other boys had a name for that too. What changed it was not anything we said at home. The coach said one line at practice, that sitting out isn't a joke, and it stopped. Kids that age copy the older boys and stop when an adult they respect says no. Maybe have a word with his coach.

One question to your son might do more than a talk. Has he ever watched the Sunday group play? If the academy allows it, an hour watching could change the name faster than anything you say.
