Two days on, has the bedtime held? Our 8 year old had his older cousins from Pune with us in May, and it took a full week after they left to get him sleeping by 9.30 again. I'd expect a bit of that after she goes, whatever you decide now.

From the other side of this: my son has asthma and has to sit out sometimes at football. The other boys had a name for that too. What changed it was not anything we said at home. The coach said one line at practice, that sitting out isn't a joke, and it stopped. Kids that age copy the older boys and stop when an adult they respect says no. Maybe have a word with his coach.

My son is 8 and went through something like this after he heard us talking about the cost of his inhalers at the chemist. Children hear more than we think. I'd ask him gently whether he overheard something, even something small.
