The baby has discovered he can shriek, and so have the neighbours downstairs

Happy shrieking, to be clear. Ear-splitting, delighted, at 6 am, usually when he spots the ceiling fan. My partner thinks it's the best sound in the world. The uncle downstairs has mentioned it in the lift, very politely, twice. Is this a phase that ends on its own? And did anyone do anything about the neighbours, or just smile and wait it out 😄

It ends, from very distant memory. Ours went through it for a few weeks and then moved on to banging spoons on everything instead. For the neighbours, I took a box of mangoes down and apologised in advance for the coming month. It went down better than I'd hoped.

Ente mol did this at a cousin's wedding, right in the middle of the muhurtham. The whole hall turned round. She's 21 now and refuses to believe us 🙂 It passes. Your uncle downstairs probably had one like that himself.

We had something similar with a toddler running laps in a flat, and our downstairs neighbours were less polite about it. We put down a rug and moved the morning play to the bedroom on the other side. I can't say it reduced the noise much, but the neighbours could see we were trying, and that changed the tone.

The 'they could see we were trying' part is useful. From tomorrow his early morning play moves to the room that isn't over their bedroom. It'll still be loud, but at least I can tell the uncle we did something 😄
