'technically' is my 12 year old's favourite word now, and he wins every argument with it

i make food for a living, so i thought i was used to negotiating. then my son discovered 'technically'. technically he did eat vegetables, there was coriander on the poha. technically he was in bed by ten, he just had a book. technically the homework is done, it just isn't written yet. he's 12. i'm losing about four of these a day.

Our younger one went through a phase of this. What ended it was using it back on her, cheerfully, every single time: 'technically, screen time ended ten minutes ago.' The word lost its shine within a fortnight.

That works. My niece's word was 'literally', for months, until I started saying it about everything, including the dal. She noticed. She stopped.

      Replying to @amber_notebook_3962

using it back is very tempting. technically i'm the one who makes his dinner, so i have some leverage. starting at breakfast.
