Teacher moved my class 2 daughter to the front bench. She's sure it's a punishment

orchid_notebook_143

Picked her up yesterday and she was quiet the whole drive. It came out at dinner: she's been moved to the first row, and in her class the first row is apparently 'where the talking kids sit'. No idea if that's true or a class 2 theory. The diary says nothing. Do I ask the teacher, or let it go for a couple of weeks? She wants me to ask, mostly so the teacher knows she wasn't talking.

Could just be height or eyesight. They shuffle seats for all sorts of reasons. Our elder one got moved up front in class 3 and it turned out the teacher had noticed her squinting before we did. Glasses a month later.

That's possible, but I would still ask rather than guess. A one-line diary note asking if the change was for any particular reason is enough, and it costs the teacher thirty seconds. It also shows her that her worry was taken seriously.

The front-row theory isn't only a class 2 thing. My older boy is in class 8 and still treats the first two benches as somewhere you get sent. Whatever the teacher's reason, she may need help seeing the seat differently, not only an explanation.

that's a bit depressing, i was hoping she'd grow out of it by class 3. sending the note anyway

Did exactly the diary note thing in class 2. Answer came back 'seats rotate every month'. That was it. My daughter was a bit disappointed it wasn't more dramatic.
