She's 9, has packed three bags of toys to give away, and I'm the sad one

She came to me this evening with three bags packed, said she's 'too old' for these now, and wants to give them to the little ones in our society. Including the kitchen set her Aaji gave her, the one nobody was allowed to touch till last year. Logically I know this is a good thing, na? But I stood there holding the bag like someone was taking my baby away 🙂 Did you let them give everything, or quietly keep a few things back?

My elder one went through this around nine too. We agreed on one 'keep' box that she filled herself, and the rest went. Funnily enough, her little sister now plays with half the keep box ❤ You're allowed to be sad about it!

I'll be the other voice. I quietly kept two things out of my son's giveaway pile. Years later he found them in my cupboard and was glad I had. Not saying hide everything, just the one or two that mean something to you.

hiding works until they find the box at the wrong moment 🤷 we let our older one pick 3 to keep and she's never asked about the rest
