She'd be the youngest in class 1 by months. Go ahead in June, or another year of UKG?

Daughter's class 1 confirmation came through. She makes the cut-off, just. Most of the class will be six months to a year older. Her UKG teacher says she's ready. My amma says hold her back, a year is nothing. My partner says the teacher knows her better than amma does. I keep changing my mind. Anyone sent the youngest child in the class? How did it look a few years on?

I teach class 3 and every year I have a couple of the youngest ones. By class 3 you mostly can't pick them out, except sometimes in writing speed and sitting still. The ones who find it hard are usually the ones whose parents keep worrying out loud in front of them 🙂 If the UKG teacher says ready, I'd go with that.

Writing speed is the part I'm worried about. Her letters are still very big.

Spoke to my partner again over lunch. We're going ahead. Amma will need some time.

my daughter was the youngest in her class all the way through. it showed in the early years, mostly in sports and handwriting. by middle school nobody remembered. she's a teenager now and her age hasn't come up in years
