She wants to leave the debating club but hates letting the team down

My daughter liked the club last term. Now she has other commitments and keeps dragging herself to meetings, mostly because her friends expect her. I said she could stop, but that skipped the uncomfortable part: telling the others. How much should a parent help with that conversation?
