She wants to leave B.Sc chemistry after two years and start B.Pharm from scratch

rose_diary_3864

Our daughter is finishing second year B.Sc. She has done reasonably well. Now a group of her friends is moving to B.Pharm and she wants to go with them, which means starting again from first year. Her reason is that pharmacy has 'more scope'. Scope for what? When I ask, I get a list of job titles she found online. I'm trying not to brush it aside, but the only real reason I can hear is the friends. Anyone whose child changed course after two years? Did they regret the lost time, or regret not switching?

I'd ask her to speak to two people who work in pharma before deciding, not friends who are about to start. 'Scope' usually means 'I heard there are jobs'. A finished B.Sc followed by a specialised master's opens a lot of the same doors, and she doesn't lose two years getting there.

I work in shifts at a pharma plant. In our QC lab, B.Sc chemistry and B.Pharm people work side by side, same shift, same work. B.Pharm helps more for some roles, true, but finishing her B.Sc is not a waste. Ask her what work she is picturing every day. Many young people change their mind once they see the actual work.
