Second-year inter classes started in the first week of May. Is a summer with no break normal now?

Our son finished first-year inter in March and had barely three weeks off before his college called them back for second-year classes, 8 to 5, six days a week. Our daughter has just finished class 10 and is at home, sleeping till nine. He hasn't said a word against it, and I can't tell whether that's a good sign. Is this what all the colleges do now, or did we pick a particularly intense one? And if it is normal, how do other families give a 16 year old any real rest between the two years?

In UP, where we are from, the board classes also start in April itself. Children get maybe two weeks in summer. I think now it is like this everywhere, not only your college. At least on Sunday let him sleep full.

Two weeks seems to be the standard, then. We're trying to keep Sundays free of books, but his friends study on Sundays too, and he feels he's falling behind if he doesn't.

I teach the final years of IB, and what I see each year is that students who protect one full day off cope better with the second year than those who match their friends' hours. You could present Sunday to him as part of the preparation rather than time taken from it. A 16 year old accepts rest more easily when it's in the plan.
