School says black leather shoes even when it rains. His have been wet since Friday

The walk from his van to the school gate goes through a stretch that collects water whenever it rains. The uniform rule is black leather shoes every day, and nothing in the circular about rain days. He's in class 5 now and comes home with socks you could wring out. The shoes don't dry overnight, even under the fan. A second pair is the obvious fix, but I'd rather not buy two pairs of leather school shoes every year if other schools let children wear black sandals or floaters on rain days. Do your schools relax this in the monsoon, and did parents have to ask for it?

ours started allowing black sandals on rain days in class 4, once enough parents complained in the class group that first wet week. before that it was two pairs and newspaper stuffed inside overnight. newspaper works better than the fan, for what it's worth

Newspaper, changed once before bed, saved us too. My daughter's school goes the other way: every July there's a note about 'untidy shoes'. So I wouldn't count on a relaxation, but asking costs nothing.

Before parents ask collectively, it may be worth finding out whether the rule is enforced on rain days at all. In our son's school the written rule is strict, but I'm told teachers look the other way in heavy rain. I can't confirm that myself; we've only had a few wet days so far this year.
