Saturday research sessions, and a nanny who doesn't work weekends

breezy_gecko_8505

A few times a month I run research sessions on Saturdays, because that's when participants are free. Our nanny works Monday to Friday and has been clear that she wants her weekends, which is fair. My partner's consulting work doesn't have much give either, and we have no family in Hyderabad. So far one of us takes the toddler out for the whole session, which means one parent effectively loses the Saturday. The options seem to be paying the nanny extra for the odd Saturday and straining that relationship, finding a separate weekend sitter our daughter has never met, or just accepting it. I don't have a clear preference, which is why I'm asking.

delivery calls mean i can get pulled out any time including weekends so we had to solve this early. we asked our nanny if she knew someone she trusted for occasional saturdays. she brought her cousin. our daughter had already seen her a few times when she dropped in so the first saturday wasnt a shock. costs a bit more per hour but our nanny felt included not replaced

Asking her to recommend someone hadn't occurred to me. That solves the stranger problem and the replacement problem at once. Did you agree a minimum number of Saturdays with the cousin, or just call when needed?

we did almost the same, but the cousin went back to her village after six months and we were back to square one. i keep meaning to find a second name and haven't

this is exactly my worry. our nanny is the only person who knows our son's routine and i havent even thought about who would cover if she went home for a month
