Robotics class for a 6 year old. Worth it, or Lego with a fee?

juniper_puzzle_7377

There's a robotics class for ages 6 to 9 that has opened near us in Miyapur, Sunday mornings. My son is in grade 1 and builds things all day, so on paper it fits. A term costs about what a good Lego set does, and I can't tell from the flyer whether he'd be learning anything he isn't already doing on our floor. Anyone's child done one of these this young?

did one for a year when she was 7. built the same car about 30 times 🤷 enjoyed it though, and she was never bored there

My son did one at 6. First few months were Lego with motors and he loved it, my aai kept saying waste of money 🙂 Then it moved to coding on a tablet and he lost interest fast. So ask what the second and third term look like, not only the first.

How long were the sessions? This one is 90 minutes, which sounds long for grade 1.

      Replying to @juniper_puzzle_7377

Ask if you can sit in for the first one. We did that for my daughter's dance class and the hour turned out to be 40 minutes of class and 20 of shoes, water and settling down. Felt much less long once we'd seen it.

What age do they usually start taking them? My 2 year old builds towers with his blocks every evening and my husband is already talking about classes.

Most of the robotics programmes I've seen start around six, when a child can follow a printed build step by step on their own. At two, the blocks at home are already doing the job.

At 6 I'd want to know how much of the hour is on a screen. If they let you see the kits and a session, you'll know quickly whether it's building or watching.
