it was lying open on the dining table, i wasnt snooping. one line said amma is angry at the laptop again and i cant talk to her i work from home and the evening production calls are the worst part of my week. didnt think i sounded angry. apparently i do not sure what to do with this. tell her i read it? just change how i am on calls? both?

i wouldn't tell her. she'll stop leaving it out and you lose the window. change the call thing and see whether the diary notices

My daughter is 21 now, and last year she told me that what she remembers most from being small is my 'work voice' on the phone. Not saying this to make you feel worse. I'd have been glad of a diary page like this when she was seven. You've been told early, which is lucky.

I'd tell her, gently. From what I remember of being that age, a diary left on the dining table is half meant to be read. You could say you saw it by accident and ask what the laptop does that makes you angry. It might be the calls, it might be something you'd never guess.

agree on telling her, less sure about asking why. my 4 yr old, given that question, produces a list. 'i saw it, i'm sorry, i'll try' might be plenty

Something that helped with our son, who is much younger: a sign on the door during calls that shows when I'll be free. He can't read yet, so I drew a clock face. Your daughter can read, so it could just say 'free at 7.30'. Then my face isn't the only information she's getting.
