Private tutor for MYP sciences, or does it clash with how the school marks?

ochre_veranda_9101

My daughter is 15 and in her last year of MYP. In the summer we found her a science tutor because she was struggling with physics. He is good at explaining concepts, but he teaches the answer format he knows from board exams. Since then her lab report marks have dropped. When she asked her teacher, she was told the reports were missing parts of the assessment criteria, the method evaluation in particular, which the tutor had told her to cut as unnecessary. Has anyone made a tutor and an IB school's expectations work together? Or is it better to stop the tutor and lean on the school for the rest of the year?

cbse here so not the same. but our tutor also had his own format that didn't match what the school wanted. we sent him the school's marking sheet and asked him to work from that. half the tutors won't bother, ours did. if yours won't, that answers it

    • We did the same with the rubric, except our son took it to the tutor himself, so he had to understand it first. That turned out to be half the benefit :)

ours is 14, no tutor for science, just school. i'd keep the tutor for the concepts and let the school own the format. sounds like that's where the marks went
