Partner wants to teach our son class 9 maths at home instead of sending him for tuition

hazel_kite_4190

Partner is taking this year off work and has decided this is the project. One hour every evening from June, the school textbook, and a pile of old question papers already printed. Our son is not convinced. Neither am I, and it isn't about the maths. Partner was good at it and still is. I just remember the time I tried to teach him fractions in class 5. Two tears, one slammed door, and that was me. Has anyone had a parent as the class 9 maths teacher? Did it survive the first unit test?

My partner teaches for a living and still does not teach our son, though he is only in class 2, so I can't speak to class 9. I can only give the reason we decided against it: at home a correction lands as criticism from a parent, not feedback from a teacher. What I would want to know is whether your son has a say. If he agrees to one term with an agreed way out, that is a very different arrangement from one decided for him.

The agreed way out is the important bit. My partner tried teaching our daughter to read Marathi last year and it ended in tears on both sides inside a month. A neighbour's college-going son does it now and she adores him. Same letters, different person.
