Our owner has said no screws in the walls. What held up for you without them?

He started crawling a few weeks ago and goes straight for everything at floor level: the plug points behind the TV, the shoe rack, the gap between the fridge and the wall. My partner is home with him through the day and is doing a brilliant job of following him around, but that isn't a plan. Our owner has been clear about no holes in the walls and no screws in the doors. So no screwed-in gates, and no anchoring the bookshelf the usual way. What did people in rentals use? Adhesive corner guards, pressure gates, straps that don't need a drill? I'd rather spend once on things that work than buy the whole aisle.

Ask the owner about just the bookshelf. Furniture tipping over is the one thing on your list that would worry me. Most owners will agree to two small holes if you offer to fill and paint them when you leave. Does the shelf hold anything heavy?

Pressure gates move. Ours walked a few inches every time someone leaned on it. Fine for slowing a crawler down, not something I'd trust at the top of stairs.

We were renting when our younger son was crawling. The adhesive corner guards lasted about a week each; he learnt to peel them off faster than they stuck. What did work was moving things instead of guarding them. The shoe rack went inside a cupboard, and the TV wires went behind a sofa we pushed across that corner. It looked odd for a year, but it cost nothing.

Plug point covers. Cheap, and no owner can object to them.

My appa solved this in our old rented place by putting the dining table on its side across the kitchen door for six months 🙂 Not elegant. The furniture straps that stick on behind did hold for us, as long as the wall wasn't the crumbly painted kind.

noting all of this down. ours is 4 months and only rolling so far, and our owner is the same about drilling. if anyone has a no-screw gate that survived a toddler i'd like to know the type
