Our 14 year old says she's too old for grandparent days. Her grandparents don't agree

ivory_fern_6476

My parents come over on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That was the arrangement when she was small, and nobody ever changed it. Thakuma cooks, Dadu sits with her while she studies, and they leave after dinner. This summer she told me she doesn't need "minding" anymore and would like those afternoons to herself once school starts. She isn't wrong, really. But for my parents those two days are the week, and I can already hear what Ma will say if I bring it up. Has anyone changed a long-standing grandparent arrangement without someone feeling pushed out?

From the other end of this: my daughter is 4 and her grandparents' visits are the best part of her week. I already wonder when that flips. Could the visits change shape instead of stopping? A fixed lunch she cooks with Thakuma on Sundays, or Dadu taking her somewhere once a week. Then it's something she chooses rather than something done to her.

my 10 yr old has started saying this about her nani's visits. we let her pick one thing to do with nani each time, a snack outing or a film, instead of nani just being around. works better for both
