Online 'pre-college' certificate from a foreign university. Has anyone's teen done one?

breezy_fern_1867

Our daughter has found an online summer certificate run by a university abroad. Six weeks, 'mentorship', a certificate at the end, and a fee that made me read the page twice. Her friends say it will help her profile. Before we decide, I'd like to know what the weeks look like: live classes or recordings, how much time with a real person, and whether anyone saw it matter later. The brochure answers none of this.

my daughter got the same emails. we asked what she would do each week and it was four recorded lectures and a quiz. she lost interest before we did 🤷

That is what I suspect this one is as well. The page says 'mentorship' four times. I'll ask how many hours with an actual person that means.

My sister brought one of these to us last month. We asked her to write down what she wanted from it, and her answer was 'it looks good'. We parked it. She then found a free online course in the same subject, which she has finished, so the interest was real, just not the certificate.

These ads have found my son too 😊 He wants the one with a campus visit attached. Still deciding. What subject is your daughter looking at?

I see these certificates on student files at work. What reads well is what the child did with it afterwards, a project, a small blog, something with their own name on it. The certificate alone, people barely look at. Ma ammayi asked for one last year and I said do the free version first 😊

That's useful. So the free version plus a small project of her own would read about the same?

Mine is younger, but these emails have started for class 8 also. 'Young scholars programme'. Asalu, who is giving them our email IDs?
