office creche will take my 3 yr old for the summer but not my 8 yr old

mint_bookmark_7091

they've opened a summer slot for employees' kids, under 6 only. grandparents have them mon to wed, thursday and friday are the problem. so my daughter gets a lovely air conditioned creche next to my floor and my son gets... what exactly. home with the tv? some camp near the office? feels wrong to split them like that but i'm out of ideas 🤷

our office has the same under 6 rule. a colleague brings her 9 yr old on fridays anyway and parks him in a meeting room with a book and a laptop. nobody has said anything yet. not saying that's the answer 🤷

tempted, i admit. he'd last about forty minutes before wandering around asking people what they do all day. which he would love

Check the access policy before you try it. At my office a child alone in a meeting room would turn into a security conversation very quickly, Friday or not. I'd ask the creche whether they'd make an exception for an older sibling two days a week. They may say no, but they may also just not have thought about it.

ours is a baby so we're nowhere near this, but the meeting room plan made me smile. my desk neighbour's 7 yr old came in once and had renamed every conference room by lunch

We had the same split last summer, with the younger one covered and the older one not. A half-day camp near the office two days a week worked for our daughter, mostly because she could come up and have lunch with one of us afterwards. The lunch was the part she looked forward to, not the camp.
