No more hugs at the school gate. She's 11 and I'm taking it badly

pebble_hammock_4485

Till last year she'd hug me at the gate every morning, in full view of everyone. This week I leaned in and got a pat on the arm and a 'bye papa' from two steps away. I know it's normal. I know I'm supposed to be fine with it. I'm a grown man sulking about a pat on the arm 😄 At least tell me it comes back at some point?

ours stopped at the gate too but still wants one at bedtime. gate hugs are public property now, bedtime ones are private. you may find the same

It came back for us at around twelve, on her terms. Mostly when she wants something, or after a bad day. I wasn't expecting it to return through the back door, but it did.

My son does a fist bump now. Took me a month to stop being sad about it. Now it's our thing 💛

A fist bump might be a negotiation worth trying. Will report back if I get rejected again 😄

Late to this, but my 12 year old waves from the bus window only if none of her friends are on that side. My 6 year old still runs at me like I'm a goalpost. One stage replaces the other, apparently
