niece is 11, lives with us for school. eyes tested last year, perfectly fine. two girls in her group got glasses over the summer and now she wants 'just the frame, with plain glass' i teach middle school and see this every year, didn't expect it at home. her parents say let her. i'm not sure. is plain glass all day bad for anything or is it just silly
If her eyes are fine, plain glass won't do anything to them. Whether you want to pay for an accessory she'll leave on a bench within three weeks is the real question.
My daughter is 8 and got real glasses this year. First week she cried, she said everybody will tease her. Now she forgets she is wearing them. Children want what their friends have. Our eye doctor told us plain lenses don't harm, only the frame should fit properly and not press on the nose. Let her try, she will get bored.
Fair point about the fit. I'd add one condition for the niece: she pays part of it from her own money. You find out quickly how much she really wants them.
