Nehru Zoo with a 6 year old before school starts. Is this weather a bad idea?

Grade 1 starts next week and I promised him one big outing first. He wants the zoo, specifically the lions and 'the big birds'. From Vanasthalipuram it's a fair drive, and the forecast says rain most afternoons. Has anyone been this early in June? Morning or afternoon, and is it walkable for a 6 year old, or should I plan on carrying him half the way?

Go at opening time. By late morning the animals are asleep in the shade and the kids are bored. Rain is not the problem, mud is. Don't send him in white shoes.

the safari bit is the only thing ours remembered from that age. the rest she complained about the walking. carry snacks, the canteen queue was long when we went

Walking is the real issue. We took the battery vehicle round once and it saved beta's feet, and mine 🙂 Worth it with a small one.

Would you take a 2 year old? Our son is obsessed with the elephants in his picture books and I'm wondering if the real thing is too much at this age.

      Replying to @moss_violin_4478

We went when ours was 3 and he spent most of it watching pigeons and the ice cream cart. The elephant got about ten seconds ❤️ So maybe, but keep expectations low.
