nanny has to go home next week for two weeks and there's no family here to cover

she's been with us three years and never taken a proper break so no complaints about her going. her mother is in hospital back home. problem is my partner has client travel booked for that same fortnight and i'm on call for deliveries. preschool finishes at 12.30. anyone used a relief nanny from an agency for two weeks? or did you just juggle leave

daycare shut for a week last year and my parents covered, so no agency experience here. what did help was the backup person coming in for one morning while the regular arrangement was still there. kids take a stranger better when someone they trust does the introducing

Seconding the overlap morning. On the days my parents take over from us, the handover morning is what makes the rest of the week go smoothly. Also check whether the agency person will stay late at all. The one a colleague used wouldn't go past 7, which is no good if a delivery comes in at 6.

two weeks like this came round every year while our son was little. some years it was an agency, some years it was me taking him to the office with a colouring book. he remembers the office ones fondly. i remember them less fondly.
