My son wants to be woken when I'm called in before dawn. Every single time

lagoon_compass_2322

On my on-call weeks the hospital sometimes calls me in at 4 or 5 in the morning. My son has started insisting I wake him to say bye whenever that happens. If I don't, he's upset all morning and his grandparents hear about it all afternoon on their days. If I do wake him, he says bye, goes straight back to sleep and remembers nothing. So the waking is for something he doesn't remember, and the not waking is for something he does. Posting at midnight because I'm on call again tonight :)

We do the note thing in my milestone weeks, when I'm gone before our daughter wakes. She can't read yet, so it's a drawing, usually a bad one. It works most days. Some days she still wanted the actual goodbye ♥

Could the last thing be a goodnight instead of a goodbye? I mean telling him at bedtime: tomorrow I'll be gone when you wake up, and this is when I'll be back. We've started a small version of this before my on-call weeks, even though our son is still a baby. It's as much for me as for him.

The bedtime version is a good idea, he does like knowing the plan. Going to try it before Thursday's on-call and see if he lets me off the dawn wake-up.
