My mother says our toddler eats like a sparrow. She seems perfectly happy to me

Every meal at home ends the same way. She eats some, says 'finished', and my mother follows her round the hall with the plate. She is active, sleeps well and the paediatrician hasn't raised anything. But I'm starting to doubt myself, because my mother raised three children and I have raised one, for a much shorter time. How did you decide whether your little one was eating enough, beyond 'she seems fine'? ♥

With our son, the paediatrician's advice was to look at the week rather than the meal, and at the growth chart at each check-up rather than the plate. That helped me more than anything else, because some days he ate almost nothing and on others he ate like a teenager. I would ask your doctor to show you her chart at the next visit.

nothing useful from me, ours is 3 months. but my mother has already started saying this about our daughter. at 3 months. so i think it may just be what mothers say

This made me laugh. If it has already started at 3 months, I feel slightly better about mine.

Also, enjoy the stage where nobody follows anyone round the house with a plate. That stage goes quickly.

Write down everything she eats for three days, snacks and milk included, before deciding anything. When we did this with our son at about that age, he was eating far more than we thought. Most of it was between meals, which is why the plates looked untouched.
