My 9 year old is class monitor this term and has started writing her friends' names on the board

She takes the role extremely seriously. Today's list of talkers included her best friend and the girl she shares a tiffin with. Both are apparently not speaking to her. She thinks she was just doing her job. I can see both sides and I'm mostly amused, but I'd rather she didn't lose all her friends by Dasara. Do I stay out of it?

Ha, mari dikri was monitor in class 4 and wrote her own best friend's name too. The friendship ended for exactly one lunch break. They sort it out faster than we do, just try not to enjoy it too much in front of her.

Same year for my son, in class 5. His teacher quietly told him to write only the names of kids who kept talking after one warning. He liked having a rule to point to when friends complained.

Ask her what the teacher told the monitors to do. Sometimes they invent stricter rules than the teacher meant.

asked her. the teacher said 'keep the class quiet'. names on the board was her own idea, borrowed from last year's teacher. we've agreed on one warning first. she considers this a huge compromise

Our son was given the role in class 3 and found it stressful rather than enjoyable. He asked his teacher to rotate it after two weeks. I'd find out whether she really likes it, or feels she has to be strict to do it properly.
