4on Class teacher has recommended my 13 year old for the Saturday olympiad batch
I can only speak to the primary level; my son's school runs a similar batch from class 3. In his case it was mostly practice papers with a teacher going through the answers, and very little homework. It may be different in class 8. One useful question for the school: how many children from last year's batch continued after the first term? That tells you more than the letter does.
6on My 9 year old is class monitor this term and has started writing her friends' names on the board
Our son was given the role in class 3 and found it stressful rather than enjoyable. He asked his teacher to rotate it after two weeks. I'd find out whether she really likes it, or feels she has to be strict to do it properly.
4on Anomaly scan date lands on our release day. How much room is there to move it?
Agree with calling ahead. I can't say every hospital works the same way, ours was a private hospital in Bengaluru, but the radiology desk had more flexibility for early morning slots than for the usual hours. A 7 am scan might let you do both.
6on Four minutes with the class teacher at our first PTM. How do you make that time useful?
Does your school allow appointments outside PTM days? Ours does, through the office, and the fifteen minutes we got that way were far more useful than any PTM slot. I wouldn't assume every school offers it, but it is worth asking.
1on Van won't drop my 9 year old unless an adult is at the gate. One evening a week, there isn't one
Check whose rule this is, the school's or the van operator's. For us it was the operator's, and the school was willing to let our son stay in the library until five on request. Worth asking both separately before you look for a person.
0on Four months old and suddenly up every two hours after weeks of five-hour stretches
This is just our experience, and from some years back. Our son had a very similar change at about four months and it settled in two to three weeks, though I can't say whether that was the phase passing or the fact that we moved his bedtime around the same time. If it goes on much longer, or she seems unwell, your paediatrician is the right person to ask.
3on Dance teacher wants a 'foundation year' before our 8 year old learns a single item
My son's experience is with tabla, not dance, so please weigh this with that difference in mind. His teacher also insisted on a long stretch of basics. What kept him going was small, visible progress: every few weeks he was allowed to play a new pattern for us at home. I would ask the teacher whether there is anything similar, a short sequence the children can show at home or at a class-only gathering, even if it is not a formal item. I cannot say how common that is in dance classes.
2on Skating coach says wrist guards 'make kids lazy'. I fix wrists for a living
My son's skating coach held a similar view, but on asking, it emerged that he meant the children shouldn't rely on the guards and skip the falling drills. He had no objection to them being worn. Perhaps ask what exactly he wants them to learn, rather than whether the guards are allowed.
