My 15 year old opens up at 10 pm. I'm usually asleep by then

Theatre lists start early, so I'm in bed by 9.30 most weeknights. My daughter has always been a night person, and lately that's when she wants to talk. Friends, school, the swim coach, all of it, around 10. Twice this week she knocked when I was already half asleep. Both times I got a 'never mind, go back to sleep'. Weekends are fine, but by then whatever it was has passed. Anyone with a teen and a job that starts at dawn figured this out? 🤷

Mine are much younger, so weigh this accordingly. My son only talks properly in the car on the way to his Saturday class, never when I ask at dinner. I've stopped fighting it and drive him even when my partner could. Is there a fixed slot in your week, even a short one, where she knows you're awake and free? The 10 pm talks might move there, at least partly.

The car is so true. Mine is 12 and it's the car or nothing. For the 10 pm problem, maybe she leaves a note or a voice message when you're asleep and you pick it up at breakfast? Not the same thing, but she'd know it reached you ❤️
