My 10 year old wants her own number for the class girls' chat group

My elder daughter is 10. Most of the girls in her section are in a chat group that runs on one mother's phone, with the kids typing in the evenings. My daughter says she is missing "everything", including homework updates. We have not given either of our girls a phone, and I do not plan to just for this. But I also do not want her to be the only one outside it. How have other families handled this at this age?

Our daughter was 12 when this started for her batch. We put the group on the family tablet that stays in the hall. She could read and reply, but only out there, not in her room. Worked ok for a year, then she wanted her own phone anyway 🙂 so it buys time, not a solution.

From the school side: these groups land on the school's desk the moment one message goes wrong, and nobody knows who the adult in charge is. Before deciding, find out which parent is actually watching that group. If the answer is nobody, that tells you something.
