missed a week with fever, now he has to copy five chapters of notes

class 7 son was home most of last week with viral fever. back at school since thursday and the teacher wants every notebook complete before the unit test, which means copying five chapters of science, social and maths from a friend's books. he's at it every evening till 10 and not even halfway. the friend wants his notebooks back by friday is photocopying allowed in your kids' schools or does it all have to be handwritten. he's barely recovered

Ask the teacher directly whether photocopied pages pasted into the notebook are acceptable for the days he was absent. Many teachers agree if asked, and nobody tells the children it is an option. When my son missed ten days in class 8, his science teacher only wanted the diagrams and the question-answers redone by hand. The rest could be pasted in.

Copying five chapters while getting over a fever sounds like a second illness 😅 Could he split it? Maths needs the working, so he does that himself, and the rest gets pasted. Also ask the friend's parents to send photos of the pages, so the books go back on Friday whatever happens.

We went through this last year. My son copied his notes by hand over two weekends, mostly because the photocopy shop near us was shut in the rains, and it turned out to be decent revision before his test. He was not unwell at the time, though. If your son is still tired, I would ask the teacher for an extra week rather than push him to finish by Friday.

In my school days everything was copied by hand, and it did help me remember. But we copied a chapter at a time while the class moved on, not five in one week. The useful part is the reading, not the handwriting. An extra week seems the better trade to me.
