If we move him for class 8, when do we tell his current school?

We're quietly looking at two other schools for our son for next year. Neither has opened applications yet. His current school asks for re-registration and the first term fee for next year around December, and the new schools probably won't confirm anything until well after that. So there's a gap where we either pay for a seat we may not use, or tell his school we're leaving with nothing confirmed. What did you do about that gap? And did telling them early change anything for your child the rest of the year?

we paid the re-registration and treated it as insurance. lost it in the end because we didn't move her. still think it was the right call, telling them early felt too risky

insurance is a nice way to think of it. did they make you sign anything saying you were staying, or was it just the fee?

      Replying to @coral_marigold_7213

My partner teaches, and at their school re-registration is only a fee, no commitment letter. Teachers do notice when a family is leaving, but mostly because the child starts talking about the new school. If he can keep it to himself, it usually stays quiet.
