How does a class 11 student get to volunteer at a hospital for a week or two?

Our son is in class 11 and is seriously considering medicine. He would like to spend part of the Dasara holidays volunteering at a hospital, to see what the work looks like before he commits two years to entrance preparation. I don't know how this works. Do hospitals in Hyderabad take school students at all? Is there a formal process, or does it come down to knowing someone? I would prefer replies from anyone who has actually arranged this rather than general suggestions.

I am a staff nurse in a private hospital in Miyapur. In our hospital school students come sometimes, but only with a letter from the school and through the HR or nursing office, not directly to the wards. Mostly they sit at the help desk, guide patients, see how the OP runs. They don't handle patients. Ask the admin office of the hospital directly and carry a letter from his school. It is good he wants to see first. Many people come into this line without seeing anything.
