Helping our weekend driver with nursery admission at St.Dominics Savio High School

violet_compass_1371

Our weekend driver lives near Charminar and his daughter turns 4 soon. He wants to apply at St.Dominics Savio and asked if I could help, as he isn't comfortable with English forms. I'm happy to help but have never dealt with a school on that side. Is it usual to go to the school office and collect a form in person, or is everything online now? And what documents should he keep ready so that he doesn't have to make multiple trips? He works six days a week, so fewer trips matter a lot.

Check the age cut-off before anything else. Whether she goes into nursery or LKG depends on her age on a particular date, and schools set that date differently. If she's close to a cut-off, it's worth confirming at the first visit so he doesn't apply for the wrong class.

Going in person is a good idea for a first visit. The office can tell him exactly what they need for his case. If he's more comfortable in Hindi or Urdu, he can just ask in that, no need to struggle in English. Kind of you to help him ❤️

We did our son's admission last year at a different school. They wanted the birth certificate, Aadhaar for the child and parents, a few passport photos and address proof. Carry two photocopies of everything.

The documents listed above were the same at both schools my boys applied to. One thing I'd add: ask the office if there's a fee for the form and whether they take cash, so he isn't caught out on the first visit.

Maybe offer to go along the first time. The form itself isn't the difficult part. It's the conversation at the counter where people get nervous and forget to ask things. Once he's been once, he'll manage the rest himself.
